What features will we want?
FanWorX poster grid looks very promising! I imagine trailers will be embed-links to save on hosting them: Will Vimeo links work? And will the trailers be within the subcategory of a clicked-on movie? I look forward to trailer content fitting in, whenever that comes, at zero rush.

Content Update Capability
Grand! And I noticed submission info doesn't allow for indentation/bullet form, it submits it all as a single paragraph - at no demand or rush, I'd love to clarify edits in bullet form rather than block paragraph, please and thank you.

Content Update Capability
If at all possible, I'd love to be able to tweak/update content after it's submitted; right now, entry titles, details, posters get locked in after first submission (as does editor bio and avatar)

Other methods of maintaining an account
I see where your coming from, pretty sound logic and it definitely helps to come prepared in case of mishaps. Thanks for getting back to me, my anxiety has now fully been quelled and I definitely think I am going to enjoy my time here. I am happy to have been able to help out in the development of the site in some capacity.

fanworkers/creators page is live
I've created the profiles system for fanwork creators. currently you can claim your own creator page after submitting some fanworks. The claiming process only has a submit function currently, so be careful, it's not editable right now. I'll add that later. If you do mess up, let me know. I can delete the data from the database but it's a bit of a pain to do.

Other methods of maintaining an account
Good question. The oauth is only used at signup to protect against bots. It's not required once an account is created. Your user credentials are store on fanworx and are the only requirement after signup. I have also added an oauth option to use twitch to sign up and there is a plan to have a reddit oauth, with a minimum karma requirement. Fanworx is meant to be for everybody so it's important that I cast the net wide in terms of sign-up methods. I kept it restricted to start off with as it's sensible to not run before you can walk. I wanted to keep sign ups minimal in case of any hiccups.

Other methods of maintaining an account
Hi, there have been instances where well.....let's just say things got a little hairy on the Discord server that I am apart of to put it mildly. I believe said server was required for me to sign up here due to the oath system otherwise if it's just a matter of me having a Discord account than there's no current issue with me being on here. In case of an instance where said Discord Server goes down I was wandering if other methods of maintaining my account on Fanworx could be implemented whenever possible and if such is possible of course. I apologise if this request was posted at an inconvenient time, I am just a little anxious about losing my account as I generally enjoy it here and look forward to returning to Fanediting sometime in the new year.

Fan Works page is born!
I have finally created the fan works page. Users can submit their own fan edits. more types of fan works will obviously come afterwards, but this is working for now, hopefully without any hitches.

Hiding in the shadows...
So, I'm a 70's kid, I hit the big five-oh in 3 months *sad face, coz no emoji showing the despair at aging horribly exists*. Fun fact, I'm triadne's older brother irl. You probably won't see me post much round here, I'm gonna be more of a lurker as I don't really do any of this editing stuff, but I'm always fascinated by the work my sister does, have even made the odd suggestions from time to time. Plus I mainly live on a Power Rangers themed message board. I love Lego, gaming and all things Japanese, including plenty of Tokusatsu. And a newly discovered passion for creative writing. I'm also slap bang in the middle of a diagnosis for Autism, which is taking way too long considering the years I've had trying to make "professionals" see it, until finally a wonderful primary carer I had agreed with me.

added more data to forums and unique user icons.
I changed the user icon / profile picture so that it will draw from the oauth account if available.

What features will we want?
I looked into the legal side of it and surprisingly, the online safety act says my responsibility ends after the form sends the email. I keep a log of that email, but that's it. Honestly, I'm actually a little uncomfortable with that. While we have policies that say no kids, we have to be realistic in that kids will find their way on here. I'm not comfortable with the idea that some predator could do a fan work of a popular kids show and use it as a honey trap or whatever it's called. That prospect makes me sick and I need to ensure that doesn't happen. The fact the law doesn't account for thta is kind of shocking considering the amount of overreach it has in other places. Well in any case I don't think it means I can't legally I can, but I want to have a way to more carefully keep tabs on any fan works of children's franchises and have strong moderating/reporting tools and stuff like that. Edit: If I set up an email proxy/relay then that would form robust protection. I'd require an oauth check up front, but not require sign-up. strip email addresses from any replies and scan the links. Keep logs.

What features will we want?
I mean... I do really like how having an email address shifts the burden off of me. If I'm clearly encouraging people to take any link exchange off site, and not encouraging it on site, then it puts me in a better, safer legal position. (because I am legally responsible for everything on this server)

Fair, @traidne! I'd say engagement would have echelons: 1. Cold end user - Joe Everyone who lands on the site, and with an email address (to send the download link to!!) and a checklist of the legality and ownership attestant, they can get a fan edit with virtually no roadblocks besides respecting the law 2. Movie Lover - Someone with a FULL account signed up; perks include requesting edits, accessing the forums to chat, and being able to leave reviews and a watch lists 3. Editors - People who make full accounts and want to submit their own edits It is nothing different than Fan Edit Central, and nobody has shut them down. It makes you click a button to attest to ownership, request a copy, and await a link in your mailbox. link text - FEC database; been around more than 20 years. The path of least resistance for newcomers and non-editors is in the above 3 echelons! This is the silver bullet that will separate us from the bad fan edit sites, and improve on the good ones (FEC is not intuitive and has shite gui) Case in point? FEC is why nearly 500 people have watched and emailed me their thoughts on my cuts. I crave feedback from editors, yes - and even got a couple from FE, but end users? I've made people happy - those are good numbers - FE.org users don't see that level of traction...FEC is why so many "REQUEST" emails are in the below picture folder - and those users write back. This system works! (image)

Yep, I added the message edit feature, you can edit your messages. I don't even have a current way to see what the previous message was, there is no record, so you get to control what your words are and Even I can't go back and see any mistakes. Might need a paper trail though for future, just in case. it'll be secure though, whatever I may add. But only in case of potential legal stuff, you know safety and protection, that kind of thing.

I think we need to make it so if a user accidentally mispeaks they have the freedom to correct themselves and delete or edit the message. I hated FE saying it's the internet, In my mind I'm going, but like 90% of internet has a msg delete option even YT which isn't made for discussions as much as it is videos. Please make us be able to delete msgs.

setting up latest messages expand, and url for topics
OK... huge headache, but I have urls set up for topics. I think I've gone about it the wrong way, but it is nonetheless functional. I need to do more work on it though. maybe i can leave it for now... I'll have to think on that and see how I feel. anyway, you can now copy the url of the topic you are looking at and share it.

What features will we want?
It sounds like a fantastic idea and for the most part, I love it. The only concern I have though, is vetting. If a user can request simply with an email address, some people may feel a bit put off by it. That may actually be not much different from any random person creating an account though. The checkboxes and all that, it sounds great. I think it definitely warrants a lot of thought. It's a great idea. There's always the legal angle. people who are most concerned by that, usually request photos. Personally, I disliked when I had emails set up. It took me away from the community. I also made the decision to use oauth to ensure that users were more likely to be genuine people. bots is a concern. The whole feedback and review angle is also something. want to give users the ability to create their own shelf so they can built an emotional connection with the fanedits they watch, and that might promote more interaction. I think your suggestion has a lot of merit in terms of reach but perhaps not engagement. I'd prefer to drive engagement. Still, your ideas are really good and can still be adapted or drawn from. Thanks for the input it is great to have this perspective.

What features will we want?
I think the home page should be intuitive and attractive. FE looks like a chaotic msg board rats nest with random graphics and images. There should be carousel posters when you land - it should be like a streaming service that doesn't "PLAY" but rather allows "REQUESTS" When people select an item, they should have to check three boxes before the "DOWNLOAD" or "REQUEST DOWNLOAD" button turns on. A click that they've read a user agreement; a click that they understand and read Fan Edit laws (provided) - and finally? A check box for the movies related to the fan edit. However many there are, they must click each movie, and clicking is "ATTESTING" - - They need only have an email address, and NO NEEED for an account. That will be the difference to FE and any other site - - I think accounts should be for contributors, and everyone else can use the page like a combination of Netflix UI and IMDB cataloguing. There will be NO cold users; there will be NO fresh eyes or passive movie lovers visiting if we make it as hard as FE. That's my only two cents! ACCESSIBLE - - ATTRACTIVE (for the love of Pete, poster image carousels or something!!) You land, and there's a top bar for website tabs and search; and there's a few beautiful carousel of "NEW RELEASES" / embedded "TRAILERS" and genres or something. No dead space, no dominating text - - Images, images, video, video, more, more, more! Actors talk about the "Recycled $20 bill" and how audiences are often other actors hoping you'll come view their show (and so the price of admission is bounce back and forth) - we should attract NEW people every day who need only love movies. Just top of my head!

setting up latest messages expand, and url for topics
I completed the latest messages page. it seems to be all good. I also adjusted the layout of topics so it fills more of the screen and gives more space for the text of the messages. if you don't see it, force refresh to purge the old CSS and it'll update for you. I started working on having urls for the topics and it has been mostly fine for actually assigning the urls, but getting the right topic to load when a url is pasted into an empty address bar has proven a bit more challenging. I need to unify the topic loading sequence into one singular process so I'm not dealing with multiple variables each time.

Your Best Trailer
You guys have a talent here. This is the kind of thing I struggle with. I don't think I have any decent trailer tbh. I think I'm quite good at telling a story and changing focus, etc. but when it comes to music video, I'm just like... *shrug*

You already know how much I love your cutting! And this is better than anything I've put together, but constructively I'd reconsider the visual lyrics as it leans more toward back when we'd watch Much/MTV music videos for collaborative musicians doing movies; it feels like it's more about "The NIN" of it all rather than the film - - but it doesn't negate your excellent use of imagery (from all sources) and the more than indelible work!! OH! Like Seal, Kiss From a Rose - or "Freddie's Back" for Freddy Krueger - - Music videos would come out and it would blend film and musicians, etc.

Good thread, thanks for sharing. :) I'd like to add a content warning for the video as there is adult imagery in it, but I think it's OK to post it here as youtube does an adult content filter on it. As long as we're careful I think it's ok.
