When Does A Film Stop Being A Film?
This is something that's been on my mind for a while now as I've been trying to get my first fanedit finished and up to a certain standard for the last three to four months, though I feel that my question could potentially make for an interesting discussion thread as it touches on the nature and definition of film classification. The standard film length runtime is considered to be 1 hour and 20 minutes yet there are also TV episodes with that exact same runtime duration. Two particular Wallace and Gromit films have the runtime of a standard TV episode yet they are classified as films and not TV episodes, it for me at least raises the question of what truly defines a film and where the separation and categorization between Short, Episode, Short Film & Feature Film begins and ends. Because if a media's categorization cannot be accurately defined and measured by it's runtime and if the rules set by society keep changing when a movie is considered a movie than anything that is capable of appearing on an electronic device that is capable of displaying imagery may as well all be defined under the one simple category of "Film" What I am getting at is that based on the revolving logic of those within the film making and television industry is that a company could release a 5 second trailer for a film that is only 60 Seconds long than on the premier date show trailers that last up to an hour or more than when the actual film comes on and ends in those 60 seconds someone says. "That was absolute cinema" simply because they were in a movie theater and payed £100 just to see a 60 second movie. Perhaps I am making this out to be more complicated than it actually is and have already given myself the answer in my own philosophical rambling in my own oblivious poetic irony, but for those who may have found that this post caught there interest, where do you personally believe a film stops being a film?

Two Trilogies Same Sin - How Star Wars 7-9 & JW 1-3 both did the same thing?
Star Wars and Jurassic Park, some extremely lauded landmark films. Turned into franchises because of their standing. Then of course, franchises do franchise things. I think it's a natural course of action for these days. It's very similar to the concept of platform decay, or crapification, where something starts out good, with a lot of effort and resources put in, then subject to efficiency drives, cutting corners, removing features, etc. I think we have all seen this video by now (Don't watch if you don't want to hear that word repeated.) Darker Animated Animal Film Discussion
I love movies, I love animals, and I love animal movies.... but what happens when storytellers try to mess you up emotionally by taking the art of animation and then giving you... Animal Farm (1954), Plague Dogs (1982) and Watership Down (1978) Well... I'm not sure. I'd like to discuss these films though, as I've watched the first two movies for the first time, and am planning to watch Watership but am truly unsure how to feel on all three of these. I really liked Plague Dogs- I thought it was ambitious and mature- I support the cutting of the U.S version to remove a certain frame... for reference I watched the 83 minute cut but now own both... and Animal Farm I just finished 10 mins ago and yea. It's anti-communist but otherwise I don't think it's that great, felt cheap and low budget... however it was funded by the CIA?? So can we discuss these films? I'm wanting to discuss the quirks and positives and flaws!

Two Trilogies Same Sin - How Star Wars 7-9 & JW 1-3 both did the same thing?
I liked Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom... its darker, more ambitious and a grand epic feel... and I like The Last Jedi... creative ideas, action, great visuals.. epic feel lots of ideas. But you know what? Both were follow ups to billion dollar franchise reboot hits- and the two films JW FK & TLJ both earned money... but were controversially received and then oh wait- the studios (Universal) for JW Dominion and Lucasfilm for TROS then forced a conclusion that threw away the previous films tone and plots, hired back the directors of the first installments, then re-cut the films to try and fit runtime and studio notes- and both ended up failing... I find this pretty amazing even more that Collin was gonna make Ep. 9 more original- but then NOPE How do two studios make the same mistake in 6-8 years...? what? How does anyone else feel on this? I'd like to discuss- this coincidence baffles me and dissapoints me- that the artistic ambitious sequels were both given the laziest corporate note trilogy endings ever.

Worst Movies You've Watched & Why
This is not a forum to re-edit these films but a forum to laugh and giggle or just vent about true disgraces to the art of film. I wish to talk about theatrical releases and mainly big budget though i'm sure someone will bring up "The Room" my goal is to not target small student films- but just have fun discussing truly awful movies we've watched that were made with big expectations. Also I want to try and separate between "enjoyably bad" and "actually garbage" Anyways! Here's the top ones on my mind City Of Angels (1998) For one the premise is kinda odd, an Angel is more concerned with getting a girl then being with God... but whatever just not a story for me- however this is the worst way you could ever even try that story. I lost it when Nicolas Cage's character was cutting veggies, cut himself "but it didn't damage him" so his girlfriend played by Meg Ryan intentionally tried to injure him to make sure? This is absolutely stupid and idiotic- no. THAT'S NOT- how you should ever check that you saw what you saw- That was terrible- I turned it off. Karate Kid Legends (2025) I actually loathe this movie- I really dislike it- it feels like an insult to the fans and a just terrible movie: First the first half of the film is about the Karate Kid teaching an old dude to box so he can defend his pizza place while the kid has a romantic relationship with the daughter. Then that does not go well- and so eventually he has to learn Karate... fine I guess- but the final fight is just corperate- it's got noises and text on the screen, bells, all of it- it feels so tiktokky or just modern- and I hate it. This is my least favorite Karate Kid film. Exodus Gods & Kings (2014) I need to preference this with two points. 1. I am going to get slightly into my religion because it backs up my points as to why I feel the way I do. 2. The trailers advertised this movie as a epic live action Exodus retelling that didn't feel as corporate as I would come to find. Okay so here we go, uh this films garbage. In reality- this is one of the worst biblical adaptations I have ever seen- and is an absolute disgrace to the word of God and the story of Exodus. For one- God is a child- a repremanding child... WHY??? How is that- I mean IK like- ... but even prince of egypt did a burning shrub and that's a kids movie? So it can't be "afraid audiences won't understand" because if kids understood a burning bush- then grown men / teens can understand a burning bush?? and the most outrageous change- (one of) The sea being turned to blood- you know... how God tells Moses show Pharaoh the power of me by placing your staff into the wat- nope it was Alligators- did they even have those in Egypt?? - Seriously I do ask- How unbiblical can you get- this isn't Monty Python for pete sake- this is meant to be a "Historical Epic" but they completely forgot that the bible is part of History- IDK if this was on Scott or Fox- but UGH. Marley & Me The Puppy Years (2011) Okay so I'll sum up my views briefly with this, I am a completinist with my collection and usually own sequels even if they are bad to complete a set of movies- yea no I full on dumped this in the garbage (or donated) I forgot- it should've gone in the trash though... This film is absolutely trash, cheap, boring, childish, immature, stupid, lame, cliche- I hate this movie so much. They took this really good "family" film the original Marley & Me from 2008, and turned it into a Air Buddies knock off- which YES I'd probably feel different if I saw this when I was a kid like Air Buddies which is still bad, but I don't hate- but no. I saw this unknowing fully what this was and it was awful. Fart jokes (which I don't mind) but remember - this is a sequel to a dog movie that was heartfelt and emotional- now this is "spy dog, fart jokes and a dad who makes beds like a military person??? UGH Shazam Fury Of The Gods (2022) All the fun humor of the first and drama of family replaced with sexual jokes 24/7 and creepy witches- I walked out about 20 mins in- maybe less. What are your worst movies you've seen?

What's your Watchlist?
I haven't really been watching any movies these days! My IMDB list is wild, but I made a shorter list in my phone a while ago containing what seemed to me to be some of the most fundamental movies I hadn't seen yet: Japanese * Samurai Rebellion * The Human Condition trilogy * Ugetsu * Battle Royale French * The Three Colors trilogy * The 400 Blows * Children of Paradise * Le Samourai * Possibly some more Robert Bresson and Godard, although I have seen their most important films already American * East of Eden * On the Waterfront * The Way of the Wind * The Purple Rose of Cairo * Texas Chain Saw Massacre * Nightmare on Elm Street Other * No Other Choice * King Lear and Hamlet directed by Kozintsev * Rocco and His Brothers * Z * Maybe the Pather Panchali sequels Series * Generation Kill * The Chosen * Twin Peaks * Babylon 5 (am now halfway through watching this) * Star Trek: Enterprise (am also halfway through watching this) * Famous nature documentaries like Planet Earth, Blue Planet It's quite a list with some difficult to watch movies. Tedious movies that require prolonged attention. Not sure when I will watch these, I am not planning to anytime soon. Maybe I will just watch them in the future with my future wife lmaoooo.

What's your Watchlist?
What are movies you are wanting to watch? I have hundreds on mine, but If I had to narrow it down, I really wanna watch some older animated films kids and teens, obviously being careful but y'know. i thought Plague Dogs was good, I wanna find more with that kinda vibe. Not cynical but not childish- films that use there rating or content to tell a story that's impactful. I do also wanna watch "The Red Shoes" and "Watership Down" tho I admit just so I have an excuse to buy the criterion's hehe- lol. What about you all?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c51ND9Hdbw0 As someone who was coming into this film ready to boycott and hate I have to admit this trailer kinda got me. Not nostalgically really but narratively. I especially really like the angle of Jesse worrying about Bonnie making friends as opposed to "I want her to play with us toys" I'm sure thats also a part, but I think showing some selfless emotions is nice. The trailer also explained Woody's return and really I kinda hope they can do something great with this. I'd like it to be the end but idk, every time they make another banger. I guess you could call the first three the "Andy" trilogy and the next 3 (4, 5 and 6) the Bonnie trilogy. Which would be brilliant from a business standpoint.

I am so interested and I wanna watch, but I just don't have a schedule allowance. It's kind of annoying because it's my own dumb brain getting in my way. It looks great. So creative. This is what we need. Just people doing what people do.

I just completed the trailer. I didn't publicize this yet so I could still change things perhaps if you guys have thoughts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZAi8BEcokA All that remains before release is getting the full HD export working! Edit: I am updating the trailer! Adding some more dialogue to make the story clearer. And maybe it can be made a little more cohesive. I also started the Full HD export. I am trying software export, but it's going to take a week! But a week might be doable nonetheless and I suppose it'll help render the color regrade better.

What is the last movie you watched and what did you think?
I watched 2 interesting films I'd love to diascuss.Coal Miners Daughter, a musical biopic about Loretta Lynn and her rise from a coal miners daughter to a country singer.and the other day I watched Jo... I really loved that concept in the explorers. They made that bubble with a piece of code??? So cool. I wanted to watch that movie a lot when I was a kid but never got to, can't remember why. I think maybe it wasn't on TV and we didn't manage to record it on tape, maybe the only way I saw it was by borrowing a friend's tape.

I watched 2 interesting films I'd love to diascuss. Coal Miners Daughter, a musical biopic about Loretta Lynn and her rise from a coal miners daughter to a country singer. and the other day I watched Joe Dante's "Explorers" a film notorious for having filming abruptly stopped. I liked both but am curious what others think!

Any Previewers?
It's fine, I just feel lost with my edits and feel this website could potentially build towards having a review section. Yes I just hope it continues to gain users. I am not good with marketing at all, it's my weakest area. I'm terrible at it. So I can only do my best to add features and then hope it will grow organically. We have the reviews system on fanedit pages, so it just needs people to come and use it. If you see anyone you think might appreciate the site, please let them know.
